Vicki Baker
I was born in Vermont and spent my childhood there. My grandmother was an artist and I loved watching her paint. She encouraged me as a young artist, as did other members of my family.
I moved to Santa Barbara, CA as a teenager and took some art classes in high school and college, but I decided to pursue a career as an elementary school teacher. I worked with young children for over 30 years, mainly in Oregon. I enjoyed watching my students delight in expressing themselves through art activites in the classroom. I loved their fresh, uninhibited approach to art, and their use of bright colors.
During my years of teaching I also took art classes whenever I could. I studied ceramics, drawing, pastels, print making and acrylic painting.
I have been retired since 1999 and have continued to pursue my love for creating art.
I have studied printmaking in Astoria, OR with Royal Nebeker and in Florida with printmakers Cathy Taylor and Marcia Stewart.
I have studied painting with Kristin Shauck and Royal Nebeker in Oregon and with Lucie Mascherowski in FL.
