Penny Treat
Art is wonderfully seductive for me. It continues to pull me deeper into its fold and I happily submit. I continue to explore my ideas
and move forward. I don’t feel tied to one medium, although that may be confusing for some; I enjoy painting, drawing and printing equally.
The human figure is often included in my work which reflects my passion for the family of man. I feel strongly that art and the human spirit/condition is inseparable. Art has always recorded our evolution from caves to sidewalks. It continues to motivate, inspire, uplift, bring joy, be exquisite, grotesque and for some, art is iconic and transcending. I feel privileged to carry on that tradition in some small way. My focus is to be a voice for a struggling culture each year; a visual refuge for all that will provide some relief from suffering. This year, 2011 the majority of my work focused on the people and country of Japan who were devastated by the deadly tsunami and earthquakes. RiverSea Gallery and I donated the proceeds from my kimono sale to a tsunami relief fund for the stricken people. Each new year, blindfolded I throw a dart at a world map. Where that dart lands is the country/region I paint or print. I happily await my new adventure for 2012.
