Gin Laughery
I create monotypes as a distillation of internal vision. My work is comprised of a basic theme: A sense of place. I have an affinity for texture and color and attribute this to growing up in Eastern Washington surrounded by the subtle textures of its farmland. The minimal landscape of Eastern Washington with its few lines and trees requires a second look in order to appreciate its depth.
I now live in the Lower Columbia River region and I find myself translating its complexity into the minimal vision I grew up with. I demand art that requires a second look and connects us to this place we call home.
I enjoy exploiting the wide range of techniques possible in the monotype process. This medium facilitates the presentation of my daily surroundings.
This allows me to rearrange and clarify my world. A combination of collage, drawing, woodblock and multiple plate processes enables me to showcase the quiet external elements that work their way into my personal internal landscape.
